Australian Red Centre Adventure Tours
4WD Tag Along Tours for the more adventurous traveler.
Experience Australia's Outback and Deserts, not as a passenger, but
driving yourself in your own or in a hired 4WD vehicle.

For over 10 years we have been guiding groups of travelers through the more remote areas of Australia. They include the Simpson Desert, Cape York, the Canning Stock Route, the Kimberley and an East-West Crossing of the continent.
On our 4WD Tag Along Tours we take normally from 5 to a maximum of
8 Tag Along vehicles.
Occasionally we also take less than 5 vehicles, provided that we can fit the trip into our schedule and of course with less than 5 vehicles we need to increase our price.

Our Tag Along Tours are usually scheduled to suit the weather conditions. When they involve traveling in our deserts that is between late May and early September.
Our Tag Along Tours must be scheduled early because we need to fit them in between our other tours,
because they require much preparation and especially to enable overseas participants to hire suitable 4WD Vehicles.
Prospective participants will be asked to commit themselves at least 6 months in advance.

The Canning Stock Route ( CSR ), the dream of every 4WD Enthusiast is one of the most demanding trips. Not just because of the at times difficult track, but more so because of its remoteness.
We travel through the Gibson Desert, the Little Sandy Desert, the Great Sandy Desert and at times also the Tanami Desert.  We start our CSR trips from different places. That maybe Perth, Alice Springs, Halls Creek or even from Darwin.
The duration varies from 23 days to 29 days.

The Simpson Desert
only takes us about 4 days to cross. However with getting there and then back or maybe to Alice Springs it becomes a 14 day trip. The sand dunes can be difficult, depending on the time of the year and there can also be hold ups due to flooded claypans.

The Cape, Cape York. We only do that on request because it is too far for us to get all the way up north.
Usually we start from and finish in Cairns, although other places are also possible. The most difficult part on that trip is the "Old Telegraph Track".
Old Telegraph Line

East-West Crossing. The first time we did our East-West Crossing as a Tag Along Tour was in 2001. There were 11 vehicle and since the we limit the number of vehicles to 8 on all our Tag Along Tours.
We start from Sydney or from Byron Bay. After crossing the Simpson Desert and a parts of the Gibson and Little Sandy Deserts we head all the way west to Steep Point. From there we make our way to Perth. This is one of my most favorite trips.
Duration is 33 to 35 days.

Kimberley Tour. This is our normal Kimberley Tour an which we allow up to 3 Tag Along vehicles.
Allowing Tag Along Participants on this tour came about because of requests from People with little 4WD experiences and wishing for the security afforded by traveling in a group.
We have various itineraries for that tour, either starting from Darwin, Perth or from Alice Springs.
Duration from 30 to 35 days.

Mike Hofmann, your guide and driver.
Migrated from Germany in 1960.
He lived and worked his first few years in Outback South Australia, until he moved to Victoria in 1963.
From the time he purchased his first car in 1960 he spend all his free time in the bush. Often he would venture into the desert and of course his car in those days wasn't a 4WD, until in 1984 he purchased a Mitsubishi Pajero.

He worked until 1996 as Fitter, Toolmaker, and later as Computer Programmer for a Vic. Govt. Department.
All through those years he continued traveling throughout the Outback and after he bought his first 4WD he took on more challenges.
The Simpson Desert, Cape York, Kimberley, Canning Stock Route are some of them.
On most of those trips, some of them 7 - 8 weeks long, he traveled on his own.

In 1996 he commenced running Outback Tours and now takes his Tour Participants to many of the places he got to know during his earlier travels.

One of Mikes interests has always been fossicking for minerals and Gem Stones.
He even worked ( part time ) a Goldmine for a while, been to the Opal Fields and Gem Fields near Emerald and still occasionally goes Gold panning ( also takes tours ) in the Vic. High Country and the Golden Triangle.

Unfortunately there have been many changes in some of the remote areas. With the increasing number of people now driving 4WD vehicles some of the once pristine areas have suffered greatly.
Some camping areas where there used to be plenty of fire wood are no almost depleted of death wood. We now often carry our fire wood from areas where there is still plenty.
We try to keep our campfires within reason, just large enough to cook on and to warm us during the cool evenings.
